Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina November 28 inaugurated the country’s first ‘4 Tier National Data Centre (4TDC) Project’ of the Bangladesh Computer Council under the ICT Division through a video conference from her official residence Ganabhaban with Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for ICT Division and Latiful Kabir, Deputy Project Director of 4TDC.

AKM Mozammel Haque, Minister, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Rezaul Karim, Project Director of 4TDC; Parthapratim Deb, Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), Md Mokabbir Hossain, Managing Director & CEO of Biman Bangladesh were also present at Bangabandhu High-Tech City in Kaliakoir of Gazipur district to inaugurate the data center. From ZTE Corporation Bangladesh, 4 Tier Data Centre’s manufacturing organization, Vincent Liu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chen Wei, Government Enterprise Managing Director (MD) and the high officials of ZTE’s project team were also present at the inauguration event.

Shenzhen-based tech conglomerate ZTE Corporation is fully responsible for the civil construction of the park and buildings, data center physical infrastructure (DCPI), IT software and hardware, and O&M services of 4TDC. As the main body of this project, the DCPI was designed and constructed strictly in accordance with the Uptime Institute Tier IV standard, and a reliability level of 99.995 percent is going to be reached. The data center has the most-advanced shock-proof, flood-proof, and explosion-proof design to ensure its safety and reliability. The successful project implementation underlines the technical strength of ZTE world’s leading products.

Bangladesh has a Tier Three data center, but the capacity of this data center is nearly full. Thus, a 4 Tier national Data Center has been established at the High-Tech Park by ZTE. The capacity of this data center is two petabytes. One petabyte is equivalent to 10 lakh gigabytes. Uptime Institute’s Tier IV certified national data center of Bangladesh is the highest level of availability, performance, and resilience that a data center can achieve, designed to support mission-critical operations. It is the first-ever national data center that received both the UPTIME Tier IV design certification and facility certification in the country, and it is also the first data center in South Asia that received UPTIME Tier IV facility certification and this data center is the seventh 4 Tier National Data Center in the world.

For the outstanding performance in the construction of the first Tier IV National Data Center (NDC) in Bangladesh, ZTE Corporation has won the Data Center Construction Team of the Year award at DCD (DataCenterDynamics) Asia Pacific Awards 2019 Ceremony held in Singapore.

‘The government of Bangladesh is committed to the growth of the ICT sector and they already have taken different initiatives to boost this sector. With the national data center being one of the effective initiatives. It’s expected to have a massive impact on the economy and ICT sector of Bangladesh’, said Chen Wei, Government Enterprise Managing Director (MD), ZTE Corporation Bangladesh.
